Financial Indicator Dashboard for MBRI

The Financial Indicator Dashboard is a project for MBRI that brings live market and banking metrics into one interface, so they can be read side by side instead of in separate places.

The engineering problem

Indicator data tends to be scattered. Market figures and banking figures usually come from different sources, change on different schedules and live in separate tools. Putting them on one screen is the point of a dashboard like this, and it raises two general questions: how to bring each kind of data into one place, and how to keep the screen current without users refreshing it.

What I built

I built the dashboard on .NET Core microservices, with SignalR streaming updates to the interface and a set of reusable chart components for the display.

Design notes

The reasoning below is general. It explains why these pieces fit a live dashboard, not how this one is laid out inside.

Microservices for separate data

When metrics come from different sources with different update rhythms, separate services are one way to handle each source on its own terms. A slow or failing feed then affects its own part of the screen rather than the whole dashboard.

SignalR for live updates

Polling asks the server for news every few seconds, whether or not anything changed. SignalR keeps a connection open and pushes updates when they happen, using WebSockets where the client supports them and falling back to other transports where it does not. For live metrics, that means less wasted traffic and numbers that change when the data does.

Reusable chart components

Many indicators share a shape: a value over time, a comparison between series, a current figure against an earlier one. Reusable chart components let a new metric reuse an existing view, and they keep every panel looking and behaving the same way, which makes a dense screen easier to read.
